ELECTRONIC / REMOTE ONLINE NOTARISATION
Are you looking to save time and avoid travel with our online notary service? Depending on the type of notarisation required, remote electronic notarisation of certain documents is often possible.
Can a Notary Public Notarise a Document Online?
Yes, remote or online electronic notarization is feasible for verifying the authenticity of documents. At White Horse Notraies, we successfully conduct digital notarisations using the internationally recognised eIDAS Regulation standard for “Qualified Electronic Signatures.” This qualified electronic signature has the same legal standing as a traditional handwritten signature. Documents you might consider for remote electronic notarisation include:
- Identity documents (Passports, Driving Licenses, ID Cards, etc.)
- Degree certificates
- Declarations
- TEFL certificates
- Police certificates
- Criminal record checks (e.g., DBS)
- Employment letters
- School letters
- A-Level/GCSE certificates
- GP reports
This list is not exhaustive; many other documents can also be notarised online. Please reach out with any specific inquiries, and we’ll be happy to assist.
What is the Process for Using Remote Electronic Notarisation?
Certain documents may require you to email us scans, such as photographic ID and a signed letter authorising us to verify the document with the issuer. We can provide guidance on what is needed for remote electronic notarisation to be effective.
When is Online Notarisation Not Possible?
For documents that require a signature on-site, online notarisation is not an option. These documents necessitate the signer’s presence with photographic ID to sign in front of the notary.
We often receive questions about identifying and witnessing signatures via video call. However, our regulatory guidelines specify that this should not be done, as there are essential checks that must be conducted in person. Additionally, English law currently prohibits the formal taking of oaths or witnessing deeds or other documents unless we are physically present with the client.
How Do You Notarise a Document Online?
A notary public can authenticate a document online. You may need to send us a scanned image of the document along with your photographic ID, or you may need to connect via video or voice call. We’ll explain all requirements and associated costs.
Can a Notary Public Notarise from Another Country?
While based in London, White Horse Notaries offers a truly international service. Many of our clients are overseas and never need to visit our office. If you’re abroad and need a document notarised, we can handle it without a face-to-face appointment in London.
Whether you are an individual living abroad or setting up a business overseas, our online remote electronic notarisation service can save you time and money.
Can Apostille or Consular Legalisation Be Done Online or Remotely?
Once your document has been notarized online, we can also arrange for it to be E-Apostilled and/or legalised remotely, regardless of your location. Additional documents may be required based on consulate guidelines, but these can usually be scanned and emailed or posted to us.
For costs, timelines, and additional requirements related to E-Apostille and/or consular legalisation, please contact us.
